When is the extended deadline for a federal individual tax return?

For the 2023 tax year, the regular due date to file your federal individual income tax return is April 15, 2024. Also, this is the date by which the IRS wants you to pay the taxes you owe them without penalties or interest. In case you need additional time beyond the April 15 deadline, you must file Form 4868 on the regular due date of your return. By filing Form 4868, you will be granted an additional 6 months of time, extending your deadline to October 15, 2024.
