Mississippi doesn’t have a separate extension form. If you have paid your income tax due and you were approved for a federal tax extension (Form 7004), the State of Mississippi automatically grants you an extension for 6 months.
Due date and penalty
For fiscal year taxpayers, the due date is the 15th day of the 3rd month after the end of the tax year. For calendar year taxpayers, the income tax return is due by March 16, 2020.
If you owe interest after the due date, the interest for the unpaid tax is 1% per month and you can accrue to a maximum of 25%.
Payment of tax dues
In case if you cannot file the Mississippi tax return on or before the due date and owe taxes, you have to make payment using Form 83-180 (Application for Automatic Extension) and mail it to the Mississippi Office of Revenue to avoid penalties for the unpaid taxes and late filing of the return.
