Find answers to your questions. How to find the prior year's Adjusted Gross Income (AGI)?
As part of the verification process for EFW payment, the primary tax filer's prior year Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) or PIN is required. If filing jointly, the spouse's prior year AGI or PIN is also necessary. Your extension request will be rejected if these details don't match IRS records.
Here’s how to find the prior year's AGI:
-
From your tax return: Look at Line 11 of Form 1040 from your prior-year tax return.
-
Tax preparer or e-filing software: Check with your tax preparer or sign in to the tax preparation software you used last year.
Note: If you're a first-time filer over the age of 16, enter zero as your AGI.
If you don’t have a copy of your tax return:
-
Get Transcript tool: Use the Get Transcript self-help tool to access a tax return transcript showing your AGI after passing the Secure Access identity verification process.
-
By mail or phone: Use the Get Transcript by Mail service or call 800-908-9946. Please allow 5 to 10 days for delivery.
