I selected the check payment option for my personal tax extension. What should I do next?

After filing your personal tax extension, follow these steps to complete your payment:

Step 1: Download and print a copy of your filed Form 4868.

Step 2: Enclose the printed copy of Form 4868 with your check or money order.

Step 3: Write your Social Security Number (SSN), daytime phone number, and ‘(tax year) Form 4868’ on the check or money order.

Step 4: Do not staple or attach your payment to Form 4868, as the IRS will not accept it.

Step 5: Mail your check or money order, along with a copy of Form 4868, to the "United States Treasury" based on your location.
