The IRS has granted an automatic extension of 90 days for individual taxpayers to file and pay their individual income tax returns. As a result, the filing date is automatically extended up to July 15, 2020, which otherwise would have been on April 15, 2020. As such, you are not required to file any additional forms to qualify for this extension.
The key highlight of this extension is that you'll have time until July 15, 2020 to pay your taxes, and for which, the IRS doesn't impose penalties/interest. In case if you aren't able to file your tax return by July 15, 2020, you can get an automatic extension of 3-months from the new deadline date by filing Form 4868.
