How long do I get an extension of time to file my 1120 return by filing form 7004?

When you file Form 7004 to request an extension to file your Form 1120 return, you generally get an automatic 6-month extension. This applies to all domestic corporations filing Form 1120, except for C corporations with fiscal tax years ending on June 30.

For C corporations with a fiscal year ending on June 30, filing Form 7004 grants them an automatic 7-month extension instead of the usual 6 months.

This extension only gives additional time to file, not to pay any taxes owed. Taxes should still be paid by the original due date to avoid penalties and interest.
