[E-file Error Code R0000-902-01] How do I resolve it?

IRS Error Code: R0000-902-01

Rejection Message:

Taxpayer TIN in the Return Header must not be the same as a TIN of a previously accepted electronic return for the return type and tax period indicated in the tax return.

What does it mean?

The IRS has rejected your return because it is a duplicate of a previously submitted electronic return. You cannot file more than one return for a year with the same Employer Identification Number (EIN).

Resolution:

To resolve this error, you need to verify the EIN previously submitted. If the EIN is incorrect, make the necessary correction and retransmit the return.

Here’s how you correct the EIN in your return:

Step 1: Sign in to your account.

Step 2: On the dashboard, under "Exempt Org Extensions - Form 8868," locate the rejected return.

Step 3: Click the "Rejected by the IRS" button next to the rejected return. You will find a list of errors associated with the return.

Step 4: Click the "Fix Me" button next to error code R0000-902-01.

Step 5: You will be directed to the "Exempt Organization Details" page. Here, you can correct the EIN.

Step 6: Review the details and click the "Transmit" button to re-transmit your corrected return to the IRS at no additional cost.

If the EIN is correct and you have not filed any return for the current year, contact the IRS or your tax professional for further assistance.
