Any businesses operating in Massachusetts (C-Corporation, Security Corporation, Corporate Combined, partnership, and fiduciaries) are granted an automatic extension of time to file the Massachusetts business income tax return.
Extension Form to use
There is no state-specific form to request an extension, as the state of Massachusetts automatically provides the extension for up to 6 months for businesses to file an income tax return with the state.
Due date to file Massachusetts tax Extension
- Corporations - Due by the 15th day of the fourth month following the close of the corporation’s tax year.
- S-Corporations - Due by the 15th day of the third month following the close of the s corporation tax year.
- Partnerships - Due by the 15th day of the fourth month following the close of the partnership’s tax year.
- Fiduciary & Estate - Due by the 15th day of the fourth month following the close of the entity’s tax year.

How to pay the state tax due?
You can choose to pay your balance due along with your MA extension by using any one of the following options:
- Electronic Funds Transfer - ACH Credit and ACH Debit.
Any fiduciary taxpayer making an Massachusetts extension payment of $5,000 or more must make the payment using electronic means.
Corporations with $100,000 or more in receipts or sales must submit their extension payment, electronically. Also, any corporation making an extension payment of $5,000 or more must make the payment using electronic means.
