Michigan tax extension Filing Method (Paper/Electronic)

State of Michigan supports only the paper filing option.

How to pay the state tax due?

You can use any of the following methods to pay your tax due.

  • The Treasury will be enforcing the e-file mandate for MBT and CIT. The enforcement includes not processing computer-generated paper returns that are eligible to be e-filed.
  • Pay by check or money order.

Does ExpressExtension support this State filing?

Yes, you can complete extension Form 4 with ExpressExtension in minutes. Our application validates your form by performing an internal audit to check for errors. Once complete, all you need to do is print your form and mail it to the address we’ve provided. Please note: An extension to file doesn’t mean more time to pay, if you owe any tax due, make your tax payment by the original due date of your state return to avoid late payment penalties.

Any Special Requirements?

An extension of time to file is not an extension of time to pay. If there is a business tax liability, payment must be included with your MI extension Form. Penalty and interest will accrue on the unpaid tax from the original due to the return. The taxpayer must pay at least 70% of the current or prior-year tax liability (whichever is less).
