Any businesses operating in Montana (C-Corporation, Security Corporation, Corporate Combined,  partnership, and fiduciaries) are granted an automatic extension of time to file the Montana business income tax return. 

Extension Form to use    

There is no state-specific form to request an extension, as the state of Montana automatically provides the extension for up to 6 months for businesses to file an income tax return with the state.

Due date to file Montana business income tax Extension

  • C-corporation: 15th day of the 5th month after the close of the tax year. For calendar year filers, it is May 15. 
  • Pass-through entities: 15th day of the 3rd month following the end of the accounting period. For calendar year filers, it is March 15. 
  • Fiduciaries: 15th day of the 4th month following the end of the accounting period. For calendar year taxpayers, it is April 15.
