Individuals residing in New Mexico are granted an automatic 6-month extension of time to file the state tax return if having an approved federal extension.
If you do not have a federal extension, or you need only a New Mexico state tax extension, file a separate extension form on or before the due date of the return. This will give you a 60-day extension with your initial application. Longer extension periods may be granted when you provide valid reasons.
Extension Form To Use

Does ExpressExtension support this State filing?
No, currently, we do not support this state filing. If you are looking for an e-file solution for Federal Form 4868, you can file your extension and get approval within minutes with ExpressExtension. Please Note: An extension to file doesn’t mean more time to pay, if you owe any tax due, make your tax payment by the original due date of your state return to avoid late payment penalties.
Any Special Requirements?
An extension of time to file your return does NOT extend the time to pay. If tax is due, interest accrues from the original due date of the tax. If you expect to owe tax when you file your return, the best policy is to make a payment.
