Why does my personal return extension still say 'in progress' even though it has been audited?

The 'In-progress' status directly indicates that you haven’t yet transmitted your extension. You can go to the Dashboard and click the 'Continue where you left off' option under the Action column for the return you are filing. 

Furthermore, you can proceed with the completion of the form in order to transmit it to the IRS.
