What is an Electronic Postmark?

An electronic postmark is provided by the transmitter to taxpayers, indicating the exact date and time (based on the taxpayer's time zone) when the extension is received through e-filing.

  • The IRS accepts an extension request if the electronic postmark is on or before the deadline, treating it as timely filed.

  • If the electronic postmark is after the deadline, the IRS considers the actual date of receipt as the filing date.

How Does the Electronic Postmark Work in ExpressExtension?

When you file a tax extension through ExpressExtension, the electronic postmark is automatically generated based on your local time zone.

Your return will be considered "On Time" if it is filed by midnight (local time) on the deadline date.
