The IRS Form 8868 is used by exempt organizations to apply for an automatic 6-month extension period to file their annual tax return. The IRS will only grant the automatic 6-month extension if the organization completes Form 8868 before the original filing deadline of their annual return and pays their balance due on Line 3c.
