ExpressExtension Support
Find answers to your questions. Can I pay the tax dues while electronically filing the extension?
ExpressExtension allows you to choose the payment option to pay your tax amount while e-filing your extension. You can choose between Electronic Funds Withdrawal (EFW), Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS), a debit/credit card, or a check or money order.
Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS): This is a free system offered by the U.S. Department of Treasury for paying federal taxes. If you choose this method, you must send your payment to the IRS using your EFTPS account after filing your return. Schedule your payments by 8:00 pm EST the day before the deadline to ensure the IRS receives them.
Electronic Funds Withdrawal (EFW): To pay your tax dues through EFW, you must provide your checking or savings account information so the IRS can withdraw the funds directly. The application will automatically set the Payment Request Date (i.e., the withdrawal date) to the day the IRS receives your extension.
Check/Money Order: After transmitting your extension, ensure your check is payable to the "United States Treasury." The mailing address depends on your location. You can find the correct address for your area on this page.
Debit/Credit Card: To pay using a debit or credit card, click here for further instructions.
If you opt for EFW, you must provide your checking or savings account information. For EFTPS, it's your responsibility to visit their portal at www.EFTPS.gov to pay your tax dues. For checks or money orders, make sure they are payable to the United States Treasury. To make a payment via debit/credit card, visit the official website.
