Businesses operating in Indiana (Corporations, S-Corporations, Partnerships, and fiduciaries) are NOT required to file a separate state extension request if having an approved federal extension. The businesses will automatically get an additional 30 days to file an Indiana Business income tax return after the Federal extension deadline. (Note: The Federal extension deadline is September 15 for most businesses). A copy of your IRS-approved Form 7004 must be attached to your Indiana return when it’s filed.
If a business does NOT have a valid Federal tax extension but requires additional time to file a state tax return, then the business must submit a letter requesting an extension to the Indiana Department of Revenue before the original filing deadline.
This letter must explain why the extension is required and for how long. The Tax Administration Division will then send you a notice of approval or rejection.
Extension Form to use
There is no state-specific form to request an extension. Businesses must write a written request prior to the due date with an explanation of why the extension is requested.
Note: Businesses must pay by the original due date for filing their return at least 90 percent of the tax that is reasonably expected to be due. Any amount due should be sent as a fifth-quarter estimated payment.

- S Corporations - March 15, or same as IRS.
- Partnerships - March 15, or same as IRS.

Any Special Requirements?

To make an Indiana state extension payment, use Form IT-6 (Request for Indiana Corporate Estimated Quarterly Income Tax Return / Extension Payment). Your Indiana extension payment will be processed as a 5th estimated tax payment.
