[E-File Error Code R0000-679-01] How do I resolve it?

IRS Error Code [R0000-679-01]:

'PrimaryPriorYearPIN' or 'PrimaryElectronicFilingPIN' or 'PrimaryPriorYearAGIAmt' in the Return Header must match the e-File database.

Rejection Message: The self-select PIN, prior-year Adjusted Gross Income (AGI), or the prior-year PIN entered in the extension request does not match with the IRS records.

What does it mean: The prior-year Adjusted Gross Income must match the amount shown with the originally filed prior-year tax return. If the amount entered differs, the IRS will reject the extension.

Resolution: Check if the self-select PIN, prior-year Adjusted Gross Income (AGI), or the prior-year PIN entered is correct. If not, correct the information and re-transmit the extension. However, if the information you entered seems to be correct to the best of your knowledge, contact the IRS at (800) 829-1040 for further assistance. You may want to paper file your tax return to the IRS instead.

Here's how you correct the self-select PIN and verification information in your return:

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. On the dashboard, under Personal Extensions - Form 4868, identify the rejected return. Then, click the Rejected by the IRS button found against it.
  3. On the errors page, click the Fix Me button against the error code R0000-679-01.
  4. You'll land in the Electronic Signature and Verification page. Correct the incorrect information.
  5. Click the Transmit button to re-transmit your return to the IRS at no additional cost.

We'll keep you informed on the status of the return once we hear back from the IRS.
