IRS Error Code [R0000-680-01]:

'SpousePriorYearAGI' or 'SpousePriorYearPIN' or 'SpouseElectronicFilingPIN' in the Return Header must match the e-file database.

Rejection Message:

The spouse's PIN, prior-year Adjusted Gross Income (AGI), or the prior-year PIN entered in the extension request does not match the IRS records.

What does it mean?

This rejection occurs when the spouse’s prior-year Adjusted Gross Income (AGI), self-select PIN, or prior-year PIN entered in the extension request does not match IRS records.

Resolution:

  • Verify the following details:

    • Spouse’s prior-year AGI (must match exactly as reported on the originally filed tax return).

    • Spouse’s self-select PIN or prior-year PIN (used in the previous e-filed return).

  • If incorrect, update the information and re-transmit the extension.

  • If the information appears correct, contact the IRS at (800) 829-1040 for further assistance.


Steps to Correct the Self-Select PIN and Verification Information in Your Return

Step 1: Sign in to your account.

Step 2: On the dashboard, under Personal Extensions - Form 4868, locate the rejected return and click "Rejected by the IRS" next to it.

Step 3: On the Errors page, find Error Code R0000-680-01 and click "Fix Me".

Step 4: You will be redirected to the Electronic Signature and Verification page.

Step 5: Review and correct the spouse’s self-select PIN, prior-year AGI, or prior-year PIN to ensure it matches IRS records.

Step 6: Click "Transmit" to re-submit your return to the IRS at no additional cost. We will notify you once the IRS processes your return.
