Find answers to your questions.[E-File Error Code R0000-500-01] How do I resolve it?
IRS Error Code [R0000-500-01]:
Rejection Message: The primary taxpayer’s name or SSN listed on the return is either incorrect or doesn't match what's in the IRS or the SSA's database. Check if the primary filer's SSN/ITIN or name is correct.
What does it mean: The IRS rejected the request for an extension because either the primary taxpayer's name or Social Security Number (SSN) in the return does not match with the IRS records.
Resolution: Check if the primary taxpayer’s name and SSN listed on the return is correct. If not, correct the information and re-transmit the extension.
Few tips to cross-verify whether you have provided the correct name:
- If you have two last names enter both the names with space in between.
- If the individual has hyphenated the last name, ensure that a hyphen (-) is included between the names.
- If there was a change in the individual's name, the same is to be updated with the Social Security Administration (SSA) before re-transmitting the return.
Here's how you correct the primary taxpayer’s name or SSN in your return:
- Log in to your account.
- On the dashboard, under Personal Extensions - Form 4868, identify the rejected return. Then, click the Rejected by the IRS button found against it.
- On the errors page, click the Fix Me button against the error code R0000-500-01.
- You'll land in the Taxpayer's Basic information page
- Under Primary Taxpayer Information, correct the incorrect information.
- Click the Transmit button to re-transmit your return to the IRS at no additional cost.
We'll keep you informed on the status of the return once we hear back from the IRS.
