[E-File Error Code R0000-500-01] How do I resolve it?

IRS Error Code [R0000-500-01]:

'PrimarySSN' and 'PrimaryNameControlTxt' in the Return Header must match the e-File database.

Rejection Message:

The primary taxpayer’s name or SSN listed on the return is either incorrect or doesn't match what's in the IRS or SSA's database. Check if the primary filer's SSN/ITIN or name is correct.

What does it mean?

This rejection occurs when the primary taxpayer’s name or Social Security Number (SSN) on the return does not match IRS or Social Security Administration (SSA) records.

Resolution:

Verify that the primary taxpayer’s name and SSN match IRS records. If incorrect, update the information and re-transmit the extension.

  • If you have two last names, enter both names with a space in between.

  • If the individual has hyphenated the last name, ensure that a hyphen (-) is included between the names.

  • If there was a change in the individual's name, ensure that it is updated with the Social Security Administration (SSA) before re-transmitting the return.
     

Steps to Correct the Primary Taxpayer’s Name or SSN in Your Return

Step 1: Sign in to your ExpressExtension account.

Step 2: On the dashboard, under Personal Extensions - Form 4868, locate the rejected return and click "Rejected by the IRS" next to it.

Step 3: On the Errors page, find Error Code R0000-500-01 and click "Fix Me". You will be redirected to the Taxpayer Information page.

Step 4: Under Primary Taxpayer Information, review and correct the name or SSN to match IRS records.

Step 5: Click the "Transmit" button to re-transmit your return to the IRS at no additional cost. We will notify you once the IRS processes your return.
