What if my taxpayer declines my request to e-sign Form 8453-TE or is delaying things?

There are a couple of ways to handle this situation:

  • It is likely that your taxpayer missed out on your request email. Click 'Resend E-sign Request' under E-sign. A notification will again be sent to the taxpayer via email for authorization.
  • If the taxpayer continues to decline your request to e-sign Form 8453-TE, check out the options available to download and print the generated Form 8453-TE. Contact your taxpayer and ask them to sign the physical copy and upload a scanned copy of the same to complete the process.

As a tax professional, it is your responsibility to get the taxpayer's signature on Form 8453-TE and file it along with Form 8868 to the IRS.
